Tenor Peter O’ Donohue hails from Fanore, Co. Clare. He began his singing career at the age of ten with singing teacher Archie Simpson. In 2005, Peter moved to Dublin where he completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) Degree at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.

Throughout his opera career Peter continued his vocal studies in London with acclaimed teacher Robert Dean.

In his earlier career, Peter toured internationally as part of the 'The Young Irish Tenors' with the Irish Dance company 'Rythm of The Dance'.


Peter has performed with every major opera company in Ireland; Wexford Opera, Opera Ireland, Wide Open Opera, Lyric Opera, Opera Theatre Company and Northern Ireland Opera.

He has performed as the tenor solo in oratorios such as Puccini’s ‘Messa di Gloria’, Mendelssohn’s ‘Elijah’, Mozart’s ‘Mass in C’  and ‘Requiem’ and Handel’s ‘Messiah’.

Peter’s opera performances include chorus in Salome, L'elisir D'amore, Tristan und Isolde, Faust, Turandot, Madame Butterfly, Dead Man Walking, Lucia Di Lammermoor, Marriage of Figaro, Il Trovatore, Don Giovanni, Macbeth, Koanga, La Pre aux Clercs, Maria de Rudenz, Herculanum, Vanessa and Alma Fetish by Irish composer Raymond Dean. He also performed in the award-winning Opera Silent Night by Kevin Puts at the Wexford Opera Festival.

He has also performed roles such as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Pluto in Orpheus in the Underworld, Guy in The Green Children, Parpignol in La BohÑ‘me, St. Brioche in The Merry Widow, Yamadoiri/Official Registrar in Madam Butterfly and Pastore III/Spiriti II in L’Orfeo. Peter also was part of the Ensemble for the Wexford Opera Festival for the short work La Cenerentola.

He sang the role of Higgins in the world premiere opera 'The Dubliners' by Andrew Sinnott, with the international award-winning Wexford Opera Festival

 

Peter has a great fascination with the human voice and specialises in vocal health. He teaches individual students singing online and at his home in Clare. He caters for both professional and beginner students.

In 2019 Peter Opened the Anam Cara School of Music in Lisdoonvarna Co. Clare. The ACSM is a Music school for all genres of music.

 

In recent years Peter has moved into the world of choral conducting, becoming the Musical Director for the acapella ensemble The Galway Baytones.

​

In September 2024 Peter will also take over the role of M.D for the Lismorahaun SIngers, this is an exciting step for Peter as he was one of its first members. The Lismorahaun SIngers and its original M.D (and founder) Archie Simpson introduced Peter to the world of classical music.
